Member of an extinct phylum of exclusively Cambrian marine organisms with worldwide distribution. They had calcareous, double-walled, vaselike skeletons, and may have been related to the sponges. They lived on the bottom of the ocean in shallow water, and built reefs in many ways similar to today's coral reefs.
